Shop Discount Stores

You can find good deals at discount stores and outlet stores on brand new, brand name clothes. These types of stores are always getting in new merchandise,  so the trick is to go frequently and be patient while you look through everything to find that special gem.

Shop Consignment & Thrift Stores

I love a good deal and these types of stores are filled with them. My favorite consignment store find was a super cute Kate Spade purse for $10, and a small black leather Coach purse for $20! You will spend the most time digging through these stores, but those rare finds that no one else has can add that extra spice to your wardrobe that make you stand out. You can also sell your gently used clothes back to a consignment store, which is good for the earth, and will help you get some extra cash for that new pair of shoes.

EBay & Craigslist

Buying and selling on eBay and craigslist is fairly simple, but should be used with caution. On eBay, you should take time to understand the shipping and return policies and read the comments of the people you are buying from to see if they’re a reputable seller. If you’re selling, you’ll need to weigh your package to get the right shipping costs before you list your item so you don’t end up not charging enough and having to eat the difference. With Craigslist, be careful of meeting people alone who you don’t know. Always meet in a public space and bring other people if you choose to meet up to exchange money and items to be safe.

Find Deals Online

Another way to maximize your spending power is to find deals online. Check out my earlier blog post on how to use websites like Groupon and Living Social for specific tips. If you set up push notifications or email alerts, you’ll never miss a good deal.

Membership Pays

I get a lot of great deals from the stores where I have credit cards. Every time I use my store credit card, I accumulate points, which turn into reward dollars. They also send me monthly coupons to entice me to buy more stuff. But if you combine your store rewards with with a 60% off sale and the coupon they mailed you, you could be paying next to nothing for that fabulous new outfit!

I’m a firm believer that if you look good, you feel good, but you don’t have to break the bank to do it. What other tips do you have on being fashionably frugal this spring?
