“I, Husky, Take Thee, Type W…”
Today, Webster Bank and UConn announced a union between these two venerable Connecticut institutions, making Webster the “Official Bank of UConn.”
Sounds great, you might be thinking, but what exactly does that mean?
Simply put, it means that you’ll soon see us sponsoring a slew of programs and events for UConn athletics and alumni. For starters, we’ll be sponsoring Homecoming and Alumni Weekend, supporting UConn’s youth and community relations programs, and supporting the new UConn Basketball Development Center that will be built on the current Memorial Stadium site in Storrs, Conn.
It also means that we will develop special, UConn and UConn Huskies branded banking products for the university’s 200,000 alumni, 28,000 students and countless fans. There’ll be a lot more to announce as the partnership grows, so keep checking back here on the Bank Roll for updates.
Are you a UConn student, alumnus or fan? What banking products or services would you like to see us develop?

As a parent of a Uconn student and longtime Webster Bank customer, can I change my debit card to a webster uconn card??? at my branch in New Milford, CT or do I need to do it up at campus. Will Webster be taking over the banking spot where Peoples was in the Co-op???
Hi Mary Beth — So glad that you’re excited about this parntership between Webster and UConn. Regarding your debit card, we’ll be announcing the details of that as soon as we can, but I can assure you that our goal is to make it as convenient as possible for our customers to get a UConn debit card
Regarding your question about the location of a Webster branch on campus, we will share that information at a future date, as soon as we can.
This year I’ll be going into my junior year at UConn, and Webster has been my bank since I was 16. I’m more than excited that Webster is partnering with UConn. I hope that this will make banking from campus a better experience and can’t wait to see what other benefits there may be for students!
Hi Geno, Thanks for your support and interest, and we look forward to making your on-campus banking experience the best it can be!
The banking products I would like to see:
*For Alumni who live in Boston, MA (not to many branches in Boston):
-Free ATM’s Anywhere, Anytime, with ATM fees rebated back every banking statement cycle.
-No minimum balances on both Checking and Saving Account
-High Yield Saving Accounts
-Branded UConn/Webster Debit card
Come to Liberty Bank, no ATM fees – anywhere, anytime.
These are great ideas – thank you so much! We will share them with the team.
I have two students at Uconn and have always had them bank with Peoples just because they would not incur and ATM fees on campus. Even if Webster does not physically go on campus, I would love to see Webster waive any ATM fees if they use your card. Then we would switch their accounts to Webster!!
I agree with Charlotte. We have a Webster account but we opened a People’s account because it was free with no minimum and there is a branch on campus so ATM fees are waived. College kids have minimal cash and should not have to pay ATM fees.
We look forward to hearing more!
this ad is an anoyance
I’ve been an employee at UConn for 8 years now and I’d love to see a Webster branch open up here on campus. I’d also love to see Webster waive ATM fees. It would also be nice having the Husky logo on my debit card to show my UConn spirit !! Go Huskies !
GO UMASS
I agree with above comments regarding UCONN students. We have been long time Webster costumers, but had to switch our kids accounts to Peoples. I’d like to know more about the fees and when this will take effect so that I can get them back to Webster. Hopefully before school resumes!!!
Thank you all so much for your comments! We are sending these to the people working on this and everyone’s voice will be heard. It’s great to get feedback from you on what you’d like to see from us. Keep the comments coming!
Looking forward to getting a ATM card with a Huskey logo. Graduated in ’66 when Wes B was the big Uconn basketball star as well as Toby Kimball. Glad to see Webster is now the Uconn “people’s” bank! It will also be nice to have Webster. ATM ‘s in Tolland County. During the summer, I’m on campus a lot, so it will be nice to have a Webster ATM available.
When???? My daughter will be a freshman this year. We’ve always banked at Webster but planned to go open a People’s account. Now I don’t know if we should move her accounts or not! Also if we don’t – I don’t see her making 10 PIN purchases on campus and I don’t want to pay ATM fees either.
i move out off the state of connecticut, and i would like to see webster open up somewhere in midwest like Minneapolis MN..THANK YOU.
Hi Pat & Robert – We will be on campus with deposit taking ATMs and staff to help set up new accounts by the end of this month.
Also, Pat – our new eChecking account would be a great fit for your daughter. It’s free for people under age 22, with no min. balance requirement and if you opt for electronic delivery of statements, there’s no monthly charge. Here’s a link: http://bit.ly/KU5e9b
Have a grandchild attending UConn the fall. We were going to open a Peoples checking account for her in order to avoid ATM fees on campus. Is anything scheduled to change soon? Freshmen move in the 24th of August. Also she is currently making 10 debits a month to avoid monthly service charges at Webster Is there going to be a free student checking account that doesn’t require 10 debits a month. Do you have a target date?
Hi Karen – We’re installing ATMs throughout the campus by the end of this month, and if you have an account with us and use our ATMs, there’s no ATM fees. : )
Also, we have a new checking account called eChecking that is free for people under age 22. Here’s the info: https://www.websteronline.com/personal/products-services/checking-services/webster-echecking.html
This is a great fit for students and you can call us, visit a branch or open an account online.
We’re still working out lots of other details, and will update everyone as soon as we can.
Thanks so much for your comments!
Thank You, Dawn!
You’re welcome, Pat! Let us know any other questions and we’ll do our best to get you quick answers.
I love People’s. They have a great branch inside the co-op. Great bank, no fees.
I’ve had my account @ People’s since I was 16. They are a great bank and I still have my husky checks! Waiting to see Webster can offer anything better than People’s.
Connor and Anthony,
We’ve got some tricks up our sleeve. We could not be more excited to partner with UCONN.
We’ll be on campus Friday/Saturday for move-in. If you want to stop by, we will hook you up with a great account that I think you’ll love.
We agree that fees are important. We have a great offering there on Friday. But, it’s also really important to bank somewhere where you know they are not going to leave you in the lurch if things get tough. We’re proud to be that bank. ABC News and the Wall Street Journal agree.

Will you be offering anything special to Uconn Alumni; I am an alumnus (’66) and would like Husky Checks.
Glad to hear ATM’ will be throughout the campus! Will be switching to Huskey checks when they become available.
Hi Everyone,
We wanted to let you know that we’ll be on campus this Friday, 8/24 & Saturday, 8/25 from 11-3 to open special Husky eChecking accounts for all UConn students. Here’s a link to the flyer for more information: http://bit.ly/Husky-eChecking
See you there!
Just called the phone number on the flyer and a gentleman is looking into this for me but wondered if you know, Dawn. How does this work for existing customers? My daughter has a Webster checking and savings acct. I am on the accts so I can add money. Will she keep these accts only the checking is e-checking? Or does she start over? Can I be on the acct to add money?
Hi Pat,
Yes, your daughter will keep her account and we’ll add the “Husky” waiver to it which includes no monthly service charge for 5 years and no ATM fees for 6 months. You can still add money to it as usual. The only requirement is we need her or you to send us a picture of her UConn ID to verify she’s a student. Please email it to customerservice@websterbank.com.
After we receive her ID, we’ll switch her account to the Husky eChecking account. Make sure she logs http://www.websteronline.com after this happens and opts into eStatements so she doesn’t get charged $5 for paper statements.
To anyone else that is reading this and interested in the Husky eChecking, please call us at 877-647-5137 so we can address your specific banking needs and questions.
Here’s more info on our regular eChecking account: http://bit.ly/KU5e9b
We will work on a new blog post to get you all the specific information.
Hi, I am a uconn health center employee. Will they get rid of the Peoples ATM in the hospital and put in a Webster? That would be sweet. Also extremely in a husky debit card. I have a AAA husky card that gets compliments every time! Thanks.
Our local branch was able to convert the account on Thursday before we moved my daughter to Storrs! Thanks, again.
Hi, I have a Webster Value Savings Account with a debit card. It’s past the end of the month. Where are these so called ATM machines that are supposed to be on campus? I don’t want to use a Bank of America or People’s ATM because I do not want to be charged a fee. However, I need cash. What do you expect me to do, and how much longer am I going to be expected to wait until a Webster ATM is going to be on campus?
Hi Kevin,
Thank you so much for being a Webster Bank Customer. Currently, we have one ATM located in Gampel on the Storrs Campus. Please note, this ATM also accepts deposits, which is a great feature.
Since our relationship inception just over a month ago began, we have been working closely with our partners on identifying additional locations to bring you even more convenience. We hope to have a couple of additional locations on the Storrs campus this fall. In the meantime, we also have a branch located in Vernon about 12 miles away. For branch directions and hours please visit: https://websterbank.via.infonow.net/locator/
If you have not heard already, Webster Bank is currently offering UCONN Student’s, Faculty and Staff a special product called Husky eChecking. There are several benefits to this account to include no foreign ATM fees for the first six months. Here’s a flyer with more info: http://bit.ly/Husky-eChecking
Let us know any other questions and thanks for your comments.
As a uconn student and a webster bank account holder, I just wanted to express what an inconvenience it is to have the atm in Gampel. Why would you put it in there when it is inaccessible most of the time? The doors don’t even open most of the time because it is inside the arena. It is a waste to set up a atm machine there. Webster bank and Uconn needs to step it up and do something about this. I know many uconn students with webster bank account, it is already very frustrating to deal with.
Hi Chris,
We apologize about that inconvenience, and assure you that we have been working hard on creating a stronger campus presence. On a positive note, we have created a new Student Checking account that has a few awesome fee and ATM refunds. You can also request to get the new UConn branded debit card to go with it.
