New eChecking Account for Tech Savvy Customers
Times, they are a-changing. People are now “tweeting” questions to us and paying their bills online instead of writing paper checks. Technology has empowered people to take control of their finances right from their mobile phone or home computer. We’ve seen a rise in online and mobile banking and people switching over to paperless communication, and decided to create a new eChecking account to cater to our tech savvy customers.
What’s in it for Me?
If you prefer to do your banking online, and don’t like to pay a monthly service charge, this may be the perfect fit for you. We’ve made this account free if you have at least one direct deposit of $500 per monthly statement, write five or fewer paper checks a month, and choose electronic rather than paper delivery of your statements. If you write more than five checks or your direct deposits are all under $500, the monthly fee is just $5.00. Separately, if you decide to get a paper statement in the mail, there’s a $5.00 monthly fee.
Plus, you’ll get all of this free of charge:
- Free Online Banking, Online Bill Pay
- Free Webster Visa® debit card
- Free Statement eDelivery ($5 for paper statements)
- Free Mobile Banking (When enrolled in online banking. Check with your mobile provider for any data charges)
- Free Balance Alerts
- Allowance of 5 paper checks per monthly statement period
- Special loan discounts
Not sure if it’s right for you? How about a free trial? Now through May 31st, you can try eChecking without monthly maintenance fees, regardless of whether you meet the direct deposit, check writing or electronic statement criteria.
Free for People 22 and Younger
For college students and young professionals, the list of expenses is seemingly endless: tuition, books, student loans, and car payments, maybe a ball game here or there. The last thing you need to worry about paying for is your checking account, so we’ve made this account free for everyone 22 years old and younger. The only thing you need to do is opt for an electronic statement sent to your in-box instead of a paper statement delivered in the mail. If not, there’s a $5.00 monthly charge for the paper statement.

P.S. Please note that the “Allowance of 5 paper checks per monthly statement period” includes withdrawals done at the local branch.
All of these ‘savings’ are for the bank’s benefit as well. When do you start passing on those savings to everyone? Including elderly/disabled individuals that have the least power to fight back and always seem to be the ones loosing/decreasing their benefits. Isn’t it time that the millionare/billionare clubs started contibuting more? Start with our congress and senate who seem to have trouble getting laws passed. Somebody tell me why they don’t pay for their insurance and why it’s a lifetime benefit. Calculating that cost savings would decrease the debt ratio gives me a headache.
