ATMs Undergo Upgrade
All of our ATMs are undergoing a technology upgrade to improve on our superior customer service, and we wanted to let you know what to expect, and get your feedback. These upgrades have already begun and will be rolling out to an ATM near you soon. Please let us know what you think in the comments below.
ADA Compliant
All ATMs are being upgraded to comply with the Americans with Disability’s Act new accessibility standards. This includes a voice guidance option, or “talking ATM”, along with Braille signage and input controls for our visually-impaired customers. These changes will be complete by mid- March. What we’re doing above and beyond what’s required is providing this service in both English and Spanish.
Envelope-Free ATM Deposits
We have also started our upgrade to Deposit Automation or “no envelope required” or what we call Envelope-Free scanning capabilities, and will continue to do so throughout this year. When visiting an Envelope-Free ATM, you will deposit checks and cash securely without completing an envelope or deposit slip. In addition, you will be able to insert up to 30 checks and 50 bills directly into the ATM with fewer clicks and screens.
Picture-Perfect Receipts
When depositing at an Envelope-Free ATM, you will receive the scanned images showing exactly what checks and cash you deposited on your receipt.
Customizing your Settings
Soon all of our ATMs will allow you to customize your experience by setting your own personal “Favorites”. Enabling favorites will help you save time whenever you visit one of our ATMs. These setting preferences include:
- Language
- Fast Cash amount
- Printing a receipt or not
- Ability to edit or change these
Once you select your favorites, your choices will be saved and automatically applied each time you visit a Webster ATM. Helping you save time is part of our Type W Personality.
Thank you for choosing Webster Bank, and we welcome your comments. We’re monitoring your feedback and want to make banking a more personable and pleasurable experience for you.

The envelope-free ATM deposits works horribly. I tried twice to put in checks (once with a single printed version which was rejected, then again with a printed and hand-written check). It only took the printed check the second time, but I did not want to hit the button that basically says, “Yes, this one check is correct” because I put in two. And yes, I did put them in correctly and am fully capable of watching your painfully slow demo on the screen to double-check that I was loading them correctly. I was so surprised there was no ‘option B’ to either tell the ATM the amount on the check it failed reading, or at least use an envelope. By then, a line had formed outside and I was so frustrated that I left without depositing either the checks or cash. What a waste of time.
Hi Eric,
Thanks for reaching out and letting us know what’s going on. We’d be happy to give you a personal demo of the ATM, just ask someone in the branch, they’re all trained on it.
To clear up one area – there is an option B, and you can edit your check if the amount isn’t correct. I have screen shots I could show you via email if you want. My email is: dmelesko@websterbank.com
Hope this helps!
The cash deposit for the machines needs work and an alternate method in my view. I have attempted cash deposits twice. The first time required several insertions of the bills before all were finally read. The second time, one of the bills would not read at the inside or outside machine. At his point there is no way to deposit outside of business hours if the cash cannot be recognized. This is not acceptable. There should be an alternate method that the amount can be entered the same way as when a check cannot be automatically scanned.
Hi Wayne,
Our ATM department says that due to fraud related reasons, we must rely on the cash depositor to authenticate the bills and cannot allow individuals to override the amount like they do with checks.
We do have ATM ambassadors at each branch that are there to help customers learn the new machines. I can also get you in touch with the person in charge of all of the new ATM’s if you’d like. I’ll send you an email to see if you’d like to do that.
Have a great day!
The instructions for using the machine was very easy to understand. The problem that I encountered is that the bill reader rejected bills that did not even have an folds in them. I had to end up using the bills in a grocery store since the machine would not accept them. under the old system, a deposit could be made and validated by the branch after hours. This is no longer the case. Cash deposits in my view are now painful unless they are made when the branch is open.
Make sure you are using an ATM that will accept multiple checks before you feed a stack of them to it. Diebold ATM’s(like the one pictured) to my knowledge only accept one at a time. As for cash issues, make sure you are feeding a bill that is a newer year. Older bills like the 1966 100 dollar bill I believe had slight issues with being processed by ATM. The note had a weak florescent stripe which was visible by a teller but ATM’s could not see it and would reject it.
Is there a way students can use their Webster ATM card on-campus at CCSU? The closest location appears to be 1.5 miles away on Farmington Ave in New britain.
Thanks,
Rick
Hi Rick,
Thanks for writing in. I’m a CCSU alumni, so I’m happy to help you out! I’m not sure what you’re looking to do. Are you looking to make a deposit at a Webster ATM, or use your card for lunch, etc., or looking to withdraw money from a different bank’s ATM on campus and not get charged?
Here’s a link to our locations: https://websterbank.via.infonow.net/locator/
Thanks,
Dawn
I am having an issue with your new envelope free ATM machines. It appears that when attempting to deposit a check without magnetic ink it appears that I am unable to make a deposit. I cannot key in the check manually and there is no option for an envelope. This is a major inconvenience as my employer often pays me with a printed check that does not use magnetic ink. If there was an option to enter the check information manually after a failed read this could solve the issue I am having.
Hi Bryan,
Thanks for reaching out. You are correct, our ATMs will not accept checks without a magnetic stripe. The reason we do this is to protect you and the bank from potential fraud. For example, a very common ATM scam is for people to submit photocopied checks. Without the magnetic stripe, it’s impossible for us to tell us if this is the real deal or not. If it helps, we’d be happy to talk to your employer to help explain why a modest investment in magnetic checks is a really smart thing to do.
Or, we could also show them payroll or electronic check writing services (that one is Free!) that would eliminate this problem. I’m really sorry, but for us to confirm that the item is a real check, we’ll need you to show the check to one of our bankers in the branch and have them deposit it for you.
We do have a special going on this week (Dec. 10th – 15th, 2012) with $500 off on payroll – here’s more details you can show your employer: http://ow.ly/i/1cEZ8
Please let us know if you’d like to have us reach out or send you any info via email as well.
I live in and my branch is the location in New Rochelle, NY. I love the functionality of the no envelope ATM machines. The problem is that the nearest machine is in mamaroneck. It’s not that far but such a pain to drive to at 11:00/12 midnight. Will you be upgrading new Rochelle’s ATM soon? Using the no envelope ATM cuts the processing time down and allows my cash to be available immediately. Please upgrade the drive up ATM at the new rochelle branch
Hi Mickey – We will be upgrading the New Rochelle branch drive up ATM from cash only to a fully functioning deposit taking ATM in a couple of months. Thanks for reaching out and have a great day!
